”Cake Boss” Admits to Driving While Impaired in NYC

TV's "Cake Boss" says he's "very disappointed" in himself for driving after having a drink in New York City last month. He says he didn't realize he was impaired.

Reality show star Buddy Valastro pleaded guilty Monday to driving while ability impaired. It's a violation, not a crime.

His driver's license will be suspended for three months, and he'll have to pay a roughly $300 fine and attend classes on the hazards of drinking and driving.

He said Monday he had only one drink at a business dinner before being pulled over, but he now realizes even one is too many to drive.

"One is too many, and that's what I'm going to practice," Valastro said.

The 37-year-old Montville, New Jersey, resident was stopped after police said they saw his yellow 2014 Corvette swerving through traffic between 20th and 32nd streets on Nov. 13. A court complaint said his blood-alcohol level was slightly above the legal limit.

Authorities said that when police stopped Valastro, he was unsteady on his feet and his eyes were bloodshot. When they tried to cuff him, Valastro told officers, "You can't arrest me. I'm the Cake Boss," and asked to be put in a cab.

Valastro, of Montville, New Jersey, is the owner and head baker at Carlo's Bakery in Hoboken and is known for his elaborate and large cakes, which are featured on his TLC shows, "Cake Boss" and "Next Great Baker."
