Times Square Subway Turnstile Jumper Had Gun in Underwear: Police

Police say they discovered a small pocket pistol in the underwear of a man who jumped a subway turnstile Monday at Times Square.

Two officers first saw 23-year-old Dashawn Hines pacing back and forth by the turnstile for the N, Q and R trains for several minutes before they saw him jump the turnstile without paying, authorities say.

The officers stopped him and when they ran a check on the man’s name, they learned he had been arrested in the city transit system before and was not eligible for a summons, so they arrested him, according to police.

When the officers searched Hines, they found a .38 Derringer loaded with two bullets in his underwear, police say.

Hines was charged with criminal possession of a weapon, theft of service and criminal trespass. It was not immediately clear if he had an attorney.
