Two women, a mother and her daughter, are dead after a man allegedly shot them and then turned the gun on himself inside a high-rise apartment building in New York City on Wednesday afternoon, police say.

The victims were apparently shot in an apartment on one of the upper floors of the building at East 174th Street in the Soundview section of the Bronx, according to police.

Chopper video shows numerous ambulances and police cars outside the building shortly before 3 p.m.

A 54-year-old woman, Susan Trivino, and her 29-year-old daughter, Suchari Guzman, died from their injuries, according to police and family.

A 52-year-old man then turned the gun on himself; he was taken to Jacobi Medical Center in critical condition, according to police.

Guzman's 1-year-old daughter was in the apartment at the time, but police said she wasn't harmed.

Trivino was an MTA bus driver, according to her mother, Blanca Pinto. Pinto told News 4 that Trivano's boyfriend shot her and her daughter after Trivino broke up with him. Police later confirmed that Trivino's ex-boyfriend, Jorge Vega, is the alleged shooter.

A 9 mm firearm was recovered at the scene, according to police.

"We're all crying. We're all broken-hearted," said Trivino's brother-in-law, who only gave his first name, Ricardo.

"She was a loving mom," said family friend Damaris Medina.

A 24-year-old man was taken into custody, but it's unclear why; he's not believed to be a suspect.
