Teen Messing With iPod Drives Jeep Into House

80-year-old woman shaken up, but physically unharmed

There's such a thing called shuffle.

An 18-year-old driver crashed into a Long Island house when he looked down to change a song on his iPod in Suffolk County last night, authorities said.

The distracted East Islip teenager first slammed his 2005 Jeep into a parked car, then lost control and sped across a few lawns before hitting the house at about 11:30. The car smashed through the front wall of the home, leaving mangled rubble scattered all over the driveway.

Fortunately, the impact didn't injure the home's elderly resident, but the hullabaloo did shake her up. Authorities sent the 80-year-old woman to the hospital as a precaution because she had just undergone a procedure.

The driver was treated for minor injuries at the scene and released. No charges are pending at this time. Authorities called the Town of Islip Buildings Department to check on the stability of the home; the extent of the damage wasn't immediately clear.
