Student Punches Teacher in the Face in Brooklyn School: Police

The teacher was taken to a hospital to be treated for an eye laceration; his injuries were not considered serious

An 18-year-old student allegedly punched a 63-year-old teacher in the face at a Brooklyn school Thursday, leaving the educator with laceration to his left eye, authorities say.

It's not clear what led to the 10:15 a.m. confrontation at W.H. Maxwell Career and Technical Education High School, but the teacher was taken to a hospital in stable condition. He is expected to be fine.

The student was arrested on a misdemeanor assault charge, police say. No weapons were used.

A spokeswoman for the Department of Education says the agency is investigating.
