A 34-year-old man who was swimming at the Jersey Shore this weekend has died, police say.
The swimmer was in the water off 7 Presidents Beach in Long Branch on Saturday when he began to struggle, Long Branch police say.
Lifeguards pulled him ashore and attempted to revive him, police said. He was taken to Monmouth Medical Center where he died.
Another beachgoer had tried to rescue the swimmer but had to be rescued by lifeguards, police said.
Extra lifeguards were on duty Saturday because of the warm weather.
Also Saturday, the Coast Guard rescued two swimmers off the coast of Belmar. Two lifeguards and an off-duty police officer also assisted in the rescue.
Days earlier, a New York woman was pulled unconscious from rough waters at a New Jersey shore beach.
