Members of a SWAT team shot and killed a seriously mentally ill man who had barricaded himself in his New Jersey home and threatened to harm his family, police sources say.
Authorities responded to the house in South Brunswick around 7 p.m. Wednesday. At some point, the barricaded man's family managed to leave the house, police sources tell NBC 4 New York, and the man walked out of the house around 11 p.m., holding a sword in one hand and a hammer in the other.
The man injured a SWAT team member with one of the weapons before he was fatally shot.
The condition of that team member was not immediately known.
