Man in Motorized Scooter Hit as SUV Jumps Curb, Running Down Woman and Smashing Into Queens Storefront

A man in a motorized scooter and a woman were two of the people hit when an SUV driver lost control, jumped the curb and barreled into a Queens storefront Monday, police say.

It's not clear what caused the 1:30 p.m. accident on College Point Boulevard in College Point, but surveillance obtained by NBC 4 New York showed the moment the Honda Pilot flew over the curb, knocking a woman to the curb.

Dazed and obviously in pain, the woman is seen getting up and limping away. The SUV then slams into a deli and nail salon, where a man in a motorized scooter was sitting at the door.

Michael Napolitano said he was pushed some 20 feet forward by the impact of the crash.

"I was going in the nail salon and all of a sudden I felt the door hit me...it just hit me from behind.

"My back was towards it...when it got me by the back it pushed me in, another second it would have caught me in the middle and I would have been dead," he said.

Police said one pedestrian was hospitalized in serious but stable condition. The 23-year-old male driver of the SUV was arrested and charged with reckless endangerment, reckless driving and driving without a license.

The video from the scene shows the front right side of the SUV completely demolished.

Debris litters the sidewalk in front of the VDK Grocery, which appears heavily damaged, as law enforcement and emergency personnel flood the area.

It wasn't clear if the driver was hurt. One person was seen being taken away on a stretcher.
