Suspected Heroin Dealer Shot in Cop Confrontation at LI Gas Station

A suspected heroin dealer was shot and wounded after exchanging gunfire with undercover narcotics investigators at a Long Island gas station, authorities say.

The Suffolk County district attorney's office says the unidentified suspect in the shooting was taken to a local hospital.

In a statement about Thursday's shooting, the district attorney's office says the suspect opened fire on members of its Heroin Task Force during an alleged drug sale. One officer returned fire, wounding the person.

The shooting happened at a gas station off exit 61 of the north service road of the Long Island Expressway in Holbrook.

A spokesman for the district attorney's office has not responded to an email requesting further information.
