Supermarket Shoplifter Steals Student's Backpack: Police

Police in New Jersey are looking for a supermarket shoplifter who also pilfered a student's backpack Thursday.

The alleged thief was in the Shoprite parking lot on Route 37 West in Toms River when he opened an unlocked car and stole a backpack containing books and drumsticks, police say.

The man then went into the supermarket, put 13 items in his shopping cart and left without paying, according to police.

He brought the car to a waiting blue GMC Envoy van with a driver inside, and the vehicle left.

Police say the van is registered to a Manchester, New Jersey, address, but they haven't been able to track down the suspect or the driver.
