Man Knocked Unconscious Trying to Defend Wife in Random Supermarket Attack: Police

Police in Connecticut are looking for five young men they say attacked a husband and wife apparently at random in a supermarket and left the man unconscious.

Authorities say the victims were walking to the Stop & Shop in Meriden on Sunday afternoon when five men inside a car started verbally harassing them.

The men followed the couple into the store and surrounded them. They threatened the 28-year-old man's wife, and when the man took offense, he was punched in the face and knocked down. The suspects kicked him, knocking out several teeth and leaving him unconscious, according to police.

The suspects, who appeared to be in their late teens or early 20s, then fled.

The victims say they did not know their assailants.

Police released surveillance images of the suspects, hoping someone recognizes them.
