Stuyvesant High School has named an interim principal days after its longtime head resigned in the wake of a cheating scandal that involved 71 students.
Jie Zhang will take over from Stanley Teitel who abruptly resigned on Friday to devote time to "personal endeavors.''
Zhang has been an educator in the school system for about two decades. Most recently, she served as principal of the Queens High School for the Sciences. She also heads the Children First Network, which oversees 30 schools including Stuyvesant.
She said she would not tolerate cheating and would enforce an existing policy that bars students from bringing cell phones into schools.
Her son graduated from the prestigious school in 2008 and her daughter will be a junior there in the fall.
