A 17-year-old student in Brooklyn brought a gun to his high school on Thursday, police say.
Police say the boy had the gun on him at New Utrecht High School in Bensonhurst, according to the NYPD.
The boy is charged with criminal possession of a weapon, officials said.
School officials learned about the firearm and confronted the student, police said. He admitted he had a gun and gave it up, authorities said. Nobody was injured.
Police were then called to the school around 12:15 p.m., according to police.
It wasn’t immediately clear why the student had the gun, however, police said the boy and another student had gotten into a fight that was posted on social media.
The teenager was seen with a gun in that video and that is why school officials approached him, police said.
