A Staten Island woman has been charged with allegedly burning her 11-year-old son with a hot butter knife.
Mervat Elhanafy was arraigned Wednesday on assault and other charges.
According to the Staten Island Advance, police say the boy suffered blisters and peeling skin to his legs and left arm.
The woman's attorney, Robert DePalma, said in court that the boy had become so unruly recently that she had sought a Person in Need of Supervision warrant.
He said she has three other children and had not intended to harm him.
She was ordered held on $2,500 bail until her next court appearance on Monday.
