A nurse strike planned for next week at St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital Center was called off Tuesday after the union representing the workers said it reached a tentative agreement with hospital management.
The proposed four-year contract, up for a vote on Jan. 4, addresses the 1,300 nurses' concerns over health care costs, prescription costs, staffing levels and fair wages, according to a release from the New York State Nurses Association.
The nurses at St. Luke's were planning to strike Jan. 3, after contract negotiations broke down last Thursday. A union spokesman said at the time that the nurses were primarily concerned over the hospitals' push to get them to pay premium contributions for health care and for prescriptions.
The union's strike notice was withdrawn Tuesday.
Negotiations continue at two other major New York City hospitals: Mount Sinai Hospital in Manhattan and Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx.
