Son of Stamford Mayor Accused of Robbery

The 21-year-old son of Stamford Mayor Dannel Malloy has been arrested on robbery charges.

Ben Malloy turned himself in to Darien police Wednesday evening, accompanied by his attorney.

Malloy was charged with criminal attempt to commit first-degree robbery and conspiracy to commit first-degree robbery. His bond was set at $2,500. He's scheduled to appear in court on March 18.

Police say a Darien resident reported that three armed men knocked on his door around 1 a.m. Tuesday and ordered him to turn over marijuana. The alleged victim was also arrested and charged with filing a false statement and various drug charges.

The mayor's home was searched as part of the investigation.

Dannel Malloy is considered a possible Democratic candidate for governor in 2010.
