99 Cent Store Soap Thief Stabs Worker With Screwdriver: Cops

Cops say the man put two bars of soap in a plastic bag and tried to leave the store without paying

Authorities are looking for a man in a red baseball cap they say stabbed a Brooklyn 99 cent store worker with a screwdriver when the employee tried to stop him from stealing two bars of soap.

Cops say the thief put two bars of soap in a plastic bag and tried to leave the 99 Cent Lots shop on New Lots Avenue in East New York June 28. Three store employees confronted him, saying he hadn't paid, and the man whipped out a screwdriver and stabbed one of them in the left arm, authorities say.

The thief then ran off -- with the soap. The victim was treated at a hospital and released.

Police released surveillance images of the suspect (above). Anyone who recognizes him is asked to call authorities.
