Skeletal Remains Found Wrapped in Carpet in Yonkers: Police

Skeletal remains were found bundled up in a carpet outside a building in Westchester County on Monday, authorities say.

They say the aged remains, which appear to be human, were discovered around 4:30 p.m. on Bruce Avenue in Yonkers and officers blocked off the area.

Sgt. Dean Politopoulos says the building doesn't have a history of police responses, but that detectives will investigate.

The body appeared to have been wrapped up elsewhere and dropped there, but it was not immediately clear how long the remains had been there, officials said.

Investigators set up a crime scene and are interviewing possible witnesses, recovering surveillance video and processing evidence, police said.

Video from the scene shows a brown carpet on a sidewalk outside a building with several police officers surrounding it.

The Yonkers Police Department is working with the Westchester County Medical Examiner’s Office who will determine the cause of death.
