2 Young Brothers From New York City Drown on Vacation in Dominican Republic

Two young brothers from New York City drowned in a river while visiting relatives in the Dominican Republic, authorities say.

The country's Civil Defense agency says the 13- and 11-year-old boys were with family members Sunday when the incident occurred in a swimming area of the Amina River.

A statement from the agency on Monday identifies the victims as Reymi and Yeremy Cruz. The river is about 120 miles northwest of the capital, Santo Domingo.

(This story has been updated to correct that the children were brothers, not sisters.)
