Details of the brake problem on Shuttle America Flight 3531 were unclear

An airplane had to be towed to the gate at Newark Airport when a problem appeared with its brakes as it approached the airport Tuesday evening, officials say.

 
Shuttle America Flight 3531 from Minneapolis was approaching the airport at about 7:40 p.m. when the brake problem became apparent, FAA officials said. The nature of the problem wasn't immediately clear. 
 
The plane was towed to the gate, where passengers disembarked.
 
Shuttle America is a division of United Airlines. Officials are investigating the problem.
