Gunfire erupted on a Brooklyn street near an elementary school Friday, hitting an 11-year-old girl in the face, injuring a woman and killing a mom of 12 who was trying to protect kids from being hit.
Police are looking for two men in connection with the shooting outside a deli at Pitkin Avenue and Watkins Street in Brownsville, which is just down the street from P.S. 298.
The woman killed has been identified as 33-year-old Zurana Horton, the parent of a child at the school on Watkins Street. Police say she was seen hovering over students to protect them as the shots were fired.
She died of a gunshot wound to the chest.
Another mom, 31, was shot in the arm and chest and was taken to a hospital.
The school's neighborhood, Brownsville, is located in southeastern Brooklyn and is among the most crime-plagued in the city.
The mother of the girl who was shot told NBC New York that "her face is opened up and she's scared to death. She's only a little girl."

The child's aunt said "somebody has died, my niece could have died, and another woman along with that could have died."
Detectives spent the evening investigating the theory a rooftop gunman was targeting a group of teenagers on the street as school let out. Police searched rooftops, and found seven 9 mm semi-automatic shells atop 1800 Pitkin Ave.
Five more casings were on the ground below.
Detectives had one person in for questioning Friday night.
Back at Zurana Horton's apartment, neighbors lit a memorial candle. The family pleaded for people to come forward if they have information about the shooters.
The investigation is continuing. Police are offering a $12,000 reward.
