24 Students, 4 Others Taken to Hospital After School Bus Crash

More than two dozen people, including 24 high school students, were taken to hospitals after their school bus collided with a box truck on Long Island Friday morning, police say.

The bus and truck crashed at Deer Park Avenue and Seaman Neck Road in Dix Hills at about 7:50 a.m., according to the Suffolk County Police Department. The 24 students, along with their bus driver and an attendant, were taken to the hospital; the box truck driver and a passenger were also transported.

Authorities say all their injuries are considered minor and they were taken to hospitals as a precaution.

The company that operates the bus said that the bus was hit by the box truck, which they say ran a red light.

Video from the scene shows several people stepping off the bus, which appears to be heavily damaged near the front. The box truck has apparent damage to its windshield and along the side.

The bus was heading to Wilson Technical School, police say.

Both vehicles were inspected at the scene and the cause of the crash is under investigation.
