Robber Pushes 74-Year-Old Man With Cane Down Stairs, Then Kicks Him, Video Shows

Police are looking for the man seen in surveillance video pushing a 74-year-old man down a flight of stairs and then trying to rob him.

Geronimo deLeon, 74, said he has never seen the man who attacked him in the stairwell of an apartment building near Crotona Avenue and Claremont Parkway in the Bronx on Thursday afternoon.

"It's very strange," he said in Spanish. "I don't know him, I've never met him."

In the video, deLeon is seen using a cane to walk up a flight of stairs -- he said the elevator was broken -- when the suspect suddenly turns around and pushes him. DeLeon stumbles backwards and then falls down the stairs as he attempts to run away.

Video shows the suspect rummaging through the victim's pockets at the bottom of the stairs and then kicking him as he lies on the ground. DeLeon said that the man tore his pants trying to get to his wallet.

DeLeon sustained minor injuries. He was treated and released from Saint Barnabas Hospital.

The NYPD asks anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
