More than an inch of rain could fall on parts of the tri-state Thursday as a soggy coastal storm system churns its way through the tri-state, according to Storm Team 4 forecasts.
The storm began dropping rain on central New Jersey and the Jersey shore early Thursday and is expected to continue making its way into the rest of the region later in the morning.
Light to medium rain is forecast throughout most of the day, Storm Team 4 says, and could be accented by patches of heavy downpours beginning in the early evening in New York City and on Long Island.
Coastal areas in New Jersey could see up to 1 1/2 inches of rain, Storm Team 4 says. Rain totals should be lower to the north and inland, with New York City seeing about a half-inch. Minor coastal flooding is also a possibility around high tide times.
The rain could also put a damper on what should be an emotional night at Yankee Stadium, where shortstop Derek Jeter is set to play his final home game. The rain is expected to have tapered off to a drizzle by that time.
Light rain is forecast into the evening, but the wet weather should clear up by Friday morning’s commute, Storm Team 4 says.
Thursday's rain will be accompanied by blustery winds and chilly temperatures, with the high in New York City struggling to hit the mid 60s. It should be warmer but still partly cloudy Friday, with highs climbing into the 70s.
Then, it will clear into what should be a beautiful, summery weekend with lots of sunshine and highs in the 80s Saturday and Sunday.
