Queens Teacher Accused of Assaulting 6-Year-Old Student

Grace Peterson-Hagendorf, 59, was charged with assault and acting in a manner to injure a child younger than 17, police said.

A substitute teacher in Queens is accused of hurting a 6-year-old student.      

Grace Peterson-Hagendorf, 59, was charged with assault and acting in a manner to injure a child younger than 17, police said.

She was arrested several hours after the Wednesday morning incident at P.S. 22 in Flushing, according to the Daily News. Peterson-Hagendorf allegedly shoved the female student into a seat with enough force to cause pain and bruising, the paper reports.

The Department of Education said Peterson-Hagendorf is a retired teacher who has worked at various schools during her career.      

It says she has been barred from teaching pending the outcome of the investigation into the incident.      

It was not immediately clear if Peterson-Hagendorf had retained a lawyer.
