Unemployed Man Stole Packages From Doorsteps Because He Needed Gifts: Queens DA

Authorities say a 26-year-old man has been arrested and is accused of stealing packages from doorsteps in Queens because he needed gifts for Christmas.

Queens District Attorney Richard Brown says Frank Garcia was arrested on petit larceny and possession of stolen property charges.

He was awaiting arraignment Wednesday evening. It wasn't immediately clear whether he had an attorney who could comment on the charges.

Prosecutors say Garcia allegedly removed packages at four different doorsteps in Elmhurst Tuesday. They say the stolen items included a Bluetooth speaker, clothing, curtains and body care products.

Garcia was arrested after investigators reviewed surveillance video. Prosecutors say he told investigators that he took the packages because he was unemployed and needed gifts for Christmas.

Brown said in a statement that Garcia acted like the Grinch.
