Black Lives Matter Protesters Pop Up Across NYC

A few dozen protesters from the Black Lives Matter movement descended upon some popular holiday destinations across midtown and lower Manhattan Monday evening, disrupting some shoppers and spectators.

They were gathering in support of Sandra Bland, a 28-year-old woman who committed suicide in a Texas jail after a heated traffic stop captured on video.

The protests began inside Grand Central Terminal at about 7 p.m. on what activists called People's Monday. They then popped up across several locations, including at Bryant Park, where a group of about 30 to 50 demonstrators marched through the park's Winter Village.

Inside Macy's at Herald Square, demonstrators mingled with shoppers as they held signs.

In Lower Manhattan, a few people were detained, including one person seen being tackled by officers outside the Fourth Precinct stationhouse.
