Prison Guard Accused of Trying to Sell Drugs in Lockup

Harris had his gun and badge when he was arrested

Drug enforcement officials say a correction officer at New York's Sing Sing prison has been charged with possession of cocaine that he intended for distribution inside the lockup.

The officials say 47-year-old Ashley Harris of the Bronx was arrested Feb. 19 at a Bronx gasoline station where he had set up a meeting with an undercover officer posing as a drug dealer.

They say Harris picked up a half pound of cocaine and was to be paid $500 for smuggling some of it into Sing Sing.

They say Harris had his gun and badge with him when he was arrested.

Defense lawyer Earl Roberts did not immediately return a call for comment.
