President Barack Obama Is Seeing the Saturday Matinee of ‘Hamilton'

Tickets for Lin-Manuel Miranda’s new hip-hop musical “Hamilton” are already a tough get, with its $27.6 million advance and crowded ticket lotteries. But there’s one person who didn’t seem to have a problem securing a seat: The President.

President Obama is expected to attend the critically acclaimed new musical Saturday afternoon.

He’ll arrive in Manhattan Friday evening for a DNC fundraiser and a stay at a midtown hotel. The commander-in-chief will then attend the 2 p.m. matinee of the musical, about the life of founding father Alexander Hamilton.

This won’t be Obama’s first interaction with “Hamilton.” Miranda first performed material from what he was then calling “The Hamilton Mixtape” for a newly elected Obama in 2009, during the “White House Evening of Poetry, Music, and Spoken Word.”

As for the First Lady? She  caught the show during its off-Broadway run at the Public Theatre, calling it the "greatest piece of art I've ever seen." And unlike Madonna, who was there the same day, the first lady was not on her phone the whole time.
