Surveillance Shows Dog, Woman Attack Mail Carrier

Surveillance video shows a woman and her dog both attacking a postal worker who authorities say was trying to get a parcel accidentally delivered to the woman's home.

US postal inspectors said they are looking into the altercation at an address on 12th Avenue in Dyker Heights at about 11 a.m. Wednesday.

That's when authorities say the mailman went to the house to pick up a package that he'd accidentally delivered there.

Video from the scene shows the man walk up to the doorstep and ring the doorbell. A person inside can be seen kicking the man, and the dog lunges out.

The mailman then can be seen running down the stairs before kicking the dog. A woman then runs out after the man carrying what appears to be a dog kennel.

She then appears to hit the man with the kennel before throwing it at the mail carrier and going back inside.

She comes out a second time with her leashed dog, and the mailman leaves the scene.

The woman, Nicole Bommarito, told NBC 4 New York that the dog was trying to protect her, and that the mailman was trying to come into her home.

"That mailman needs to be fired because he walks into people's houses," she said. "He walked into my house and I got in trouble for it."

No one was seriously injured in the altercation, postal inspectors say. The NYPD says it took a report on the case but is treating it as a verbal dispute. They say that the dog did nothing wrong.

The case was referred to the U.S. Postal Inspection Service.

Assaulting a postal worker is a federal crime.
