The Port Authority bus terminal was evacuated and closed for less than an hour Monday evening as police investigated a traveler's report of a bag containing what appeared to be grenades, authorities said.
The devices were determined to be replica grenades and were inert.
Emergency responders and a bomb squad responded to the scene at 48th Street and Ninth Avenue and shut down the terminal as a precaution, according to a spokesman for the Port Authority.
Police are investigating who left the bags behind.
The bus terminal reopened and service was returning to normal, the spokesman said. The closure lasted about 45 minutes.
