Police: Body Found Off NJ Coast is Missing Officer

A passing boater found Jason Sill's body around 3 p.m. Sunday in waters off Wildwood

State Police say a body found off the coast of southern New Jersey has been identified as that of a decorated police officer who went missing while boating.

A passing boater found Jason Sill's body around 3 p.m. Sunday in waters off Wildwood. An autopsy was performed Tuesday, but the manner and cause of his death have not been determined.

Sill, a 39-year-old Cape May resident who served with the Middle Township police force, was last seen Aug. 27 when he took his boat out from a marina for a planned fishing trip. Roughly an hour later, another boater found Sill's boat unoccupied in the ocean a mile from shore.

Sill was honored in 2000 for saving the life of an unconscious woman suffering from carbon monoxide poisoning.
