Occupy Wall Street Protester Raped, Flung 2 Stories to Ground: Police

Police are searching for a man they say raped a 56-year-old woman on an elevated pier at the South Street Seaport, then flung her over the second-story railing to the ground below early Monday.

The victim told police she recognized her attacker from past Occupy Wall Street demonstrations. She was in Manhattan this week to participate in a protest marking the anniversary of the movement.

At about 2 a.m. Monday, the suspect, 44-year-old Jackie Barcliff, forced the woman to accompany him to the elevated level of the new Pier 15 park overlooking the East River. He allegedly raped her there and then threw her over the second-story railing to the ground below.

The victim sustained a broken pelvis and other serious injuries, according to police.

Barcliff was arrested last December in front of Liberty Plaza for assault and resisting arrest, police said. He's frequented other Occupy Wall Street gathering sites in lower Manhattan.

Anyone with information on Barcliff is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 800-577-TIPS or at nypdcrimestoppers.com.
