Cuomo Picks Republican for Review Team

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo has appointed Republican state Assemblyman Marc Molinaro to a panel tasked with examining unfunded and underfunded mandates imposed by the state.

Molinaro said in a statement that he was grateful for being picked by the Democratic governor for the panel. He joins a group of industry, labor and government officials.

The panel was established to identify solutions to reducing local taxes by cutting the costs of programs mandated by the state.

Molinaro said in a statement that such requirements place an "enormous burden'' on schools and local governments. He said the costs are ``passed on to beleaguered taxpayers.''

The Hudson Valley assemblyman represents parts of Dutchess and Columbia counties.
