The New York City health department has launched a rat control Web site.
The site includes information on how to recognize signs of rats, how to choose a pest-control company and how to organize community efforts to fight rats.
Important steps in keeping down the rat population, the Web site says, include storing garbage in rat-resistant containers with lids and checking for cracks or holes in building foundations and sidewalks.
