2 Pedestrians Killed in Separate Suffolk County Crashes

Two pedestrians died Wednesday night in separate collisions on Long Island, police say. 

In the first collision, 65-year-old John O'Brien was crossing the street in front of Lighthouse Commons Shopping center in Oakdale when he was hit by a Hyunai Elantra going west on Montauk Highway, Suffolk County police say. O'Brien was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The Hyundai's driver, 19, was not injured.

The second, unidentified pedestrian was crossing County Road 83 when he was hit a woman driving a 2012 Nissan sedan, police say. The man, between 55 and 60 years old, was taken to the hospital where he was also pronounced dead.

Both crashes are under investigation.
