A 33-year-old man allegedly threatened to disarm a Port Authority police officer and shoot her after she and other cops saw him sneak onto a PATH train through the handicapped turnstile entrance at Newark Penn Station without paying the fare, officials say.
Officers saw Elijah Myers get onto a train around 5:15 p.m. Monday and, since he hadn't paid, asked him to get off. Myers allegedly turned belligerent, shouting, refusing to leave, threatening one cop and then kicking and flailing violently as officers tried to remove him.
Ultimately cops say they had to use a chemical agent to subdue him. Myers was taken into custody. While he was being processed, officers say they found him in possession of a pipe with suspected crack cocaine residue.
Myers was charged with aggravated assault on a police officer, resisting arrest, drug paraphernalia, bail jumping and other crimes. It wasn't clear if he had retained an attorney.
Myers also had two outstanding arrest warrants -- one in Newark and one in East Orange -- though the nature of those charges weren't clear. The cops involved in the fray were treated by EMS at the scene.
