Brooklyn Elementary School Teacher Accused of Molesting Students: NYPD

A teacher at a Brooklyn elementary school has been accused of molesting several students, police say.

Omil Carrasquillo, a cluster science teacher at The Canton School P.S. 249 in Flatbush, is charged with six counts of sexual abuse and seven counts of endangering the welfare of a child, according to the NYPD.

Police say Carrasquillo, 36, allegedly molested at least five girls between the ages of 10 and 11 on school property between late 2013 and earlier this month. The abuses were reported on Friday.

Carrasquillo has worked in the city’s Department of Education since 2006. He was removed from the classroom as soon as administrators learned of the allegations, DOE spokesman Harry Hartfield said.

“These allegations are disturbing and we removed Mr. Carrasquillo immediately: He is not near any students. We are investigating the matter and supporting this school community,” Hartfield said.

Bail for Carraquillo was set at $25,000 cash following his arraignment Thursday. It wasn't clear if he entered a plea, and information on an attorney for him wasn't immediately available.
