A union representing 7,000 office cleaners in New Jersey has announced a tentative four-year contract agreement that would increase wages.
Kevin Brown, state director of Local 32BJ of the Service Employees International Union, says in a news release that the agreement is "a win for the state's working families, businesses, and taxpayers.''
Under the tentative contract, hourly pay is to increase over the next four years. Cleaners are to continue receiving health care and other benefits.
Negotiations began in mid-October between the union and the New Jersey Contractors Association.
The group of contract cleaning companies includes American Building Maintenance, ALLAN Industries Inc., Bravo Building Services, CRI International, CRS Facility Services and ISS Facility Services.
The current contract was to expire at 12:01 a.m. on Jan. 1.
