Sexual Assault Claims in NYC School Locker Room Under Investigation

The NYPD said it is investigating sexual assaults of several teen boys inside a locker room at a Brooklyn school campus.

Police said four 14-year-old boys were touched inappropriately by older male students at It Takes A Village Academy, which is one of the schools in the Samuel J. Tilden Educational Complex in Flatbush. The attacks happened back in September and October. The number of suspects weren't immediately known.

The city Department of Education said it is treating the reports seriously and one principal has been reassigned pending the outcome of the investigation. Families who have students at the campus have been informed of the investigation.

"Safety always comes first and these deeply troubling allegations are being investigated," said a Department of Education representative. "We are working in close partnership with the NYPD to ensure appropriate action is taken and are providing the school with ongoing support."

The NYPD said it wants other victims to forward. It wasn't clear if the students still attend the school or have transferred elsewhere.

The Tilden Educational Complex houses three city public schools: the Cultural Academy for the Arts and Sciences, It Takes a Village Academy and Kurt Hahn Expeditionary Learning School. The campus was formerly known as Samuel J. Tilden High School but was reorganized into three separate institutions in 2007.
