New York City has reported another death linked to swine flu -- the ninth since the H1N1 virus appeared in the region last month.
The city health department said the victim was over the age of 50 and had "underlying" health conditions that made the flu more dangerous.
Many thousands of New Yorkers are believed to have had swine flu. City health officials say most suffered only mild symptoms.
About 375 people have been hospitalized.
Dozens of schools around the area temporarily shut their doors as students fell ill with suspected cases of swine flu. Health officials remind people to wash their hands, but say swine flu does not appear to be more dangerous than other forms of flu.
About 1,000 New Yorkers die of flu in a normal flu season, health officials said.
