2 Die in Fire at Queens Home with ‘Hoarding Condition:' FDNY

Firefighters battled flames and clutter as they responded to a blaze that killed two people Sunday in Queens, the FDNY said.

A "hoarding condition" at the Far Rockaway home made it difficult for firefighters to reach those inside, said an FDNY spokesperson. By the time they reached the victims in the kitchen area, they had died.

The identities of the victims weren't disclosed by officials at the scene.

"The house was very cluttered, extremely on that first floor where the fire was, so it hampered the first two units trying to push in to knock down the fire,"  FDNY Battalion Chief Joseph Ferrante told NBC 4 New York.

Investigators were attempting to determine the cause of the fire.
