Man Puts Sharp Object to Woman's Throat, Tells Her to Bend Over: NYPD

A man took a knife to a woman’s throat as he attempted to rape her in Brooklyn, police said.

The man came up to the 25-year-old woman from behind as she walked near Wyckoff Avenue and Starr Street in Bushwick early Sunday morning.

Police said he took out a sharp object and placed it up to her throat before telling her to bend over.

The woman yelled out for help and began struggling with the man. She was able to break free, but not before the suspect cut her neck with the sharp object.

The woman ran to a nearby health store. Workers in the store told NBC 4 New York Monday they put a bandage on her and called 911.

She suffered a four-inch laceration to her neck and was taken to Wyckoff Hospital in stable condition.

Police said the suspect is in his 20s.

The attack has frightened people in the rapidly gentrifying section of Bushwick.

"It's awful. You want to think that where you're living is safe," said resident Nicole Wolcott.

"I just have to be a little more careful," said Tiffany Smith. "I have to be aware of my surroundings. It's really scary."
