Man Setting Trash on Fire in East Harlem: NYPD

Police say a man is setting trash on fire in East Harlem, and the fires have spread to at least two vehicles.

The alleged arsonist first struck last Thursday. Police say he lit a pile of Lexington Avenue trash on fire just before 4 a.m. The blaze spread to a Mitsubishi that was parked nearby before it was extinguished.

Then on Monday, the man lit another pile of trash on fire, this time on Madison Avenue just before midnight. That fire spread to a parked Ford before it was extinguished.

Surveillance video from one of the fires shows the man coolly smoking a cigarette as flames erupt out of cardboard boxes.

No one has been reported injured by the fires.
