Man Taken Into Custody After Firing Shot During Road Rage Fight in Lower Manhattan: NYPD

Police took a man into custody on the FDR Drive after he allegedly pulled out a gun and fired a shot while fighting with another man who had backed into his SUV in Lower Manhattan.

The man was pulled over on the FDR Drive, near the Manhattan Bridge, after police caught up with his vehicle. Video from Chopper 4 shows backed-up traffic in the northbound lanes behind the suspect's white BMW SUV.

Police said he had been arguing with the driver of a white utility van who had backed into his SUV. The alleged shooter was in the passenger seat of the SUV and a woman was driving when the vehicle was bumped.

As the two men argued outside a liquor store near Pearl and Wall streets — either over the bumped SUV or the parking space itself — the man in the BMW took out a gun and fired a shot into the ground.

He then allegedly took off in the BMW and drove onto the FDR, where he was stopped by police near Houston Street.

No one was shot or injured during the fight, police said.

Police cautioned that an investigation into the altercation is ongoing and details are preliminary.

Traffic was backed up on the FDR around 5:30 p.m. as the right lane remained closed.
