NYC Grocery Store Recalls Organic Peanut Products

A Manhattan grocery store chain, Gourmet Garage, is recalling two organic peanut products due to concern about potential salmonella contamination.

The products contain peanuts supplied by Peanut Corp. of America., which ran a Georgia plant authorities say was at the heart of a national salmonella outbreak. Peanut Corp. denies any wrongdoing.

Gourmet Garage is recalling its 10-ounce Organic Roasted Salted Peanuts, marked with best-if-used-by dates of Jan. 1, 2007, to April 2, 2009. It also is recalling its Organic Roasted Unsalted Peanuts with the same dates.

The company is asking customers to return the products for full refunds. It did not immediately return a telephone message Tuesday.

Salmonella infections can be life threatening, especially to those with weak immune systems.
