New York City officials are welcoming a congresswoman's proposal for a parade honoring 9/11 responders and survivors.

Rep. Carolyn Maloney made the suggestion in a letter Friday to Mayor Bill de Blasio, a fellow Democrat.

His office responds that it's "a great idea," and officials will contact first responders, families and advocates "to put on a world-class event."

Maloney says a parade in the city's famed Canyon of Heroes would be "a small but meaningful way to show our gratitude" to police, firefighters and others who responded to and survived the terror attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

Her suggestion comes three days after Congress approved a measure ensuring that a fund for sick 9/11 responders and survivors never runs out of money. Maloney was among the sponsors.
