First Lady of NYC Compares Trump to Major Hurricanes

Chirlane McCray, the first lady of New York and wife of Mayor Bill de Blasio, compared President Donald Trump to deadly hurricanes in Texas, Florida and Puerto Rico.

The comments were made at Christian Cultural Center Megachurch, the city's largest megachurch, on Sunday morning. Worshippers at the 10 a.m. service were already fired up before the first couple arrived.

And when they took the stage, McCray and de Blasio used someone other than Jesus to rally the crowd.

“I’m sure Donald Trump think it’s his city, but no, it’s your city,” de Blasio said. “Send a message to Washington on Tuesday: We're not buying what Trump is selling.”

McCray then compared the president to the violent storms that ravaged parts of the South and Caribbean in recent months.

“Harvey, Irma, Maria, and the most vicious and violent storm of them all — Trump,” she said to cheers.

Pastor A.R. Bernard, a Republican who has had his differences with Trump, then tried to smooth things over a little. “Don’t think that storms are just destructive,” he said.

But de Blasio’s message was clear. “The best reason to vote on Nov. 7 is because of what happened last Nov. 8,” he told the congregation.

Meanwhile, de Blasio’s Republican challenger, Nicole Malliotakis, on Sunday said the mayor’s focus on Trump speaks volumes.

“It’s very telling, this is a man who can’t run on his record,” she said.

Malliotakis highlighted another front-page pay-to-play story about how a donor stopped receiving violations for running an illegal hotel at a Madison Avenue building after he donated $102,000 that Mayor de Blasio personally asked for.
