Brooklyn Man Killed Mack Truck Surfing: Police

A 32-year-old Brooklyn man was killed Tuesday afternoon as he car surfed alongside a Mack truck in Manhattan, police said.

Richard Oates was riding a skateboard while hanging onto the passenger side of the green Mack truck as it drove down Delancey Street, near Norfolk Street, on the Lower East Side, according to police.

Sometime before 1:20 p.m., Oates fell off of the skateboard and onto the street, where he was hit by the rear passenger-side wheels of the truck.

It’s unclear what type of Mack truck ran over the man, but the company makes large trucks like semi-trucks.

The accident was not a hit-and-run, police said.

The NYPD’s Collision Investigation Squad is investigating the incident.
