Woman Sitting in Car Shot, Driver Hurt: NYPD

A woman was shot while sitting in a car in the Bronx Monday afternoon, and a man who was sitting in the driver's seat was also hurt, police said.

The 27-year-old woman was sitting in the 1997 Chevy Astro van in front of 1535 Westchester Ave. in the Soundview neighborhood around 3:15 p.m. when several men approached and one of them shot into the car, hitting her in the left arm.

The group of suspects then ran away.

An 18-year-old man who was in the driver's seat received cuts to his face from flying debris in the shooting, police said.

The shooting took place on a busy store-lined avenue and sent panicked pedestrians running.

"It was havoc, people gathering in different places, there was a lot of running and people looking," said witness Norma Colon.

The two victims were taken to Jacobi Medical Center and are in stable condition.

Surveillence video of the masked suspect shows him stuffing a gun into his pocket as he ran from the scene.

Police have released a photo and video of the suspected gunman, who's believed to be in his late teens to early 20s. Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 800-577-TIPS.
